Longhorn Steer

Lend-A-Hand Ranch

The McKenna Children’s Museum, New Braunfels, TX

The McKenna Children's Museum in New Braunfels, Texas, is designed to stimulate a child's natural desire to learn through interactive environments, ranging from grocery stores to outer space.

The museum asked Wildlife Preservations to create a taxidermy mount of a longhorn steer to serve as the focal point of the Lend-A-Hand Ranch. The job seemed straight forward enough; how hard could it be to find a longhorn in Texas?  However, after a week of phone calls to ranches across the state, no longhorns could be found. In the end, the specimen was supplied by a ranch in up-state New York. Nobody in Texas needs to know that, do they?
